Joint CSO/SSO meeting

On September 24-25 NYWEA held a joint specialty conference with the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) covering the topics of combined sewer overflows and sanitary sewer overflows. It took place in Tarrytown, NY, and over 270 people were registered for the 2-day meeting.

The program included a panel discussion with USEPA and NYSDEC experts. They explored the regulatory issues affecting CSOs and SSOs. Other presentations included regulatory compliance and wet weather treatment and improvements The program concluded with tours of the Corona Avenue Vortex Facility and the Flushing Bay CSO Retention Facility. Visit our web site to view photos from the meeting.

This meeting was a tremendous success, in large part because it was a collaborative effort with our sister organization, NEWEA. The meeting illustrates how vital and important partnering with like environmental organizations can be.

Co-sponsors of the meeting were NYSDEC, USEPA Regions I and II, the Interstate Sanitation Commission and the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission.
