Get connected!

Patricia Cerro-Reehil

Now, more than ever it is essential for us to communicate with members easily and efficiently. Electronic transfer of information is an amazing tool for us. We want to be able to communicate substantive information to YOU the members of the NYWEA. There is simply no better way to “get connected”! We are sure it will make you feel closer to your organization, and provide you with timely cost-effective information.

Here's how you can get connected: visit the NYWEA web site at www.nywea.org. Go to the bottom of the screen, and click on “Reply to Executive Director.” Type in your email address, and click “send.” It's that easy! Another option would be to just contact me directly at  pcr@nywea.org, and type in your email address.

Upcoming events

Mark your calendar for the 74th Annual Meeting, scheduled for February 4-6, 2002 at the New York City Marriott Marquis. (See President's message for details.)

The NYWEA Spring Technical Conference & Exhibition will take place in downtown Rochester, June 17-19, 2002. Members of the Genesee Chapter have been working hard for over 2 years to structure a program that is technically appealing with an emphasis on industrial issues.

Get published!

One of the important goals of CLEARWATERS magazine is for it to educat NYWEA members. The magazine provides timely topics related to regional water issues affecting the environment. It has become a hallmark in the industry, known for its well-written articles that broaden our perspective.

CLEARWATERS highlights the many talents from within the organization. I invite you to consider writing an article. There are many stories to share, where others can learn from your experiences. Although we schedule themes for each issue, we also like to include off-topic articles to create a diverse well-balanced magazine.  Click here for the “Authors' guidelines” (opens new browser window).

Oneida Lake theme

The theme for this, the Winter issue of CLEARWATERS is Oneida Lake. I have lived on the North shore of Oneida Lake for over 19 years. The people who live in the Central New York area know that Oneida Lake is commonly referred to as the right-handed thumbprint impression of the Finger Lakes. As you will learn as you read through this issue, Oneida lake is geologically very different than any of the other Finger Lakes.

Oneida Lake provides a tremendous year-round fishery with walleye and bass derbies in the spring and summer. In the winter, it offers outstanding ice fishing.

Lately, we are all feeling protective of everything; our families, our lives, our environment. It is welcome news to me that Oneida Lake is well protected. The role of public agencies and citizens groups makes the policy development issues associated with Oneida Lake well reviewed. All lakes should be this lucky.

Make the NYWEA web site one of your frequently visited bookmarks!
