2024 AWWA, ASCE, & NYWEA Joint Bowling Night

 

March 2022 Syracuse Crunch Game

In late March, The YP Committee held a meet up at the Syracuse Crunch hockey game, held at the Upstate Medical University Arena. This event was the first in-person event held in 2022.

Spring 2021 YP Earth Day Clean Up Event at Dr. Weeks Elementary School 

Our CNYWEA YP Committee hosted an Earth Day Clean Up event at Dr. Edwin E Weeks Elementary School in Syracuse, NY. All attendees donned some work gloves, work boots, and face masks to clean up trash and debris in/around the schoolyard. It was a beautiful day to be outside working to improve our downtown Syracuse community. Attendees filled more than 8 large contractor bags in an hour. A special thank you to Madison Quinn of the NYWEA executive office who coordinated the trash pickup at the end of the event and Elena Araya of the CNYWEA Board for coordinating the supplies and refreshments for the event! We are looking forward to planning​ more local clean up events with CNYWEA and community members in the future!​

Spring 2021 YP Spring Walk in Ithaca

Our CNYWEA YP Committee hosted a small hike around the Six Mile Creek/Mulholland Wildflower Preserve in Ithaca, NY. Attendees included YP members and several members of Cornell University’s NYWEA student chapter. This event was a great opportunity for the YPs and students to mingle and network in a beautiful location while maintaining social-distance protocols. The spring weather in Ithaca, as usual, was GORGE-ous! The YP Committee is very excited to continue planning fun events and strengthening our relationships with our members and student chapters! 

Winter 2021 YP Snowshoeing at Green Lakes State Park

Our CNYWEA YP Committee hosted a snowshoe trek around Green Lakes (Fayetteville, NY) on Sunday, February 28th. Even though it was an exceptionally warm week, there was still some snow to play around in. While some attendees wore their snowshoes, others opted to bare boot or microspike the hike.  About a dozen ESF students, a couple of YPs and some retirees attended the walk, following CDC mask and social distancing protocols. Afterward, the attendees enjoyed hot chocolate, coffee, doughnuts and bagels provided by our YP Committee. This was the first in-person event of 2021 and we are hopeful to host more outdoor, socially-distant events in the near future!​

Fall 2020 Creek Walk Clean Up

The Central NYWEA YP committee hosted an outdoor, socially-distant event at the Syracuse Inner Harbor Creekwalk on Monday, September 28th 2020. There were about a dozen volunteers, including members and non-members, who took time out of their day to pick up litter along the Creekwalk. This was the first in-person event since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a great way to engage with the NYWEA community, especially on a warm, fall day. A special thank you to Madison Quinn of the NYWEA executive office who coordinated the trash pickup at the end of the event, Casey Clark of Onondaga County WEP who provided “trash grabbers”, and Nancy Vigneault of CDM Smith who coordinated food pick up. 

 

2019 ACSE/NWYEA Bowling Night

Carrying on tradition, the CNYWEA Young Professionals met up with local ACSE members for a night of bowling! This event was held at the Pink Flamingo in Liverpool, NY.

Metro WWTP Tour

On October 25, 2018, the Central Chapter toured the Onondaga County Syracuse Metro Treatment Fa​cility, located on Hiawatha Boulevard in Syracuse. The facility’s head operator, Dean Ellsworth provided an overview of the treatment process and discussed recent and upcoming improvements to the facility. After the tour, members attended a happy hour at the nearby Buried Acorn Brewery.


​Empire Farmstead Brewery Tour

On June 23, 2017, the Central Chapter toured the Empire Farmstead Brewery , located in Cazenovia. After the tour, members engaged in a networking happy hour at the brewery.​

2017 ASCE/NYWEA Bowling Event

On February 7, 2017, CNYWEA YP’s shared a bowling event with the local ASCE chapter at the Pink Flamingo in Liverpool, NY. Members were able to network throughout the event.
